Waveney have to settle for a draw in local derby

Hadley and Ottoway Anglian Combination Premier Division

Waveney 0 Beccles Town 0
Waveney had to settle for a share of the points after dominating this local derby against Beccles Town. Waveney created several good chances but Beccles held on to ensure both meetings this season ended in draws.Waveney were missing Carl Burgess through work so Harley Peek filled in at right back with Sam Shepherd was given the left back role.Adam Taylor again partnered Ritchi High in a back four. The only other change saw Callum Jones start on the right hand side of midfield. Bradley Hough returned after a month out but he had to settle for a place on the Waveney bench.A decent size crowd greeted us at Saturn Close. With no saturday fixture for Lowestoft Town or Kirkley as supporters and officials from both clubs were in attendance. It was good to see the two big clubs in the town supporting grassroots football along with the travelling Beccles supporters seeing a decent game despite the lack of a goal. Waveney dominated the opening period as Beccles battling a strong wind were pinned in for long periods.Sam Clay should of perhaps opened the scoring as he outpaced his man down the right.A heavy touch allowing Cable to make a save after coming off his line quickly.Several Waveney corners came to nothing as Beccles defended them well.Ryan Bloomfield then had a good chance to open the scoring but fired wide of the target and Beccles survived. After the break Waveney remained on top with Beccles again having to defend well.In fact both young Beccles centre backs Boyd and Galer did very well making several last ditch challenges.Connor Swan should have done better but his finish from five yards out lacked conviction as Bloomfield's presented him with a chance after a move Dow the left.Waveney sent on Etheridge, Hough and Carinhas to try and make the breakthrough as further chances went begging as Clay failed to get a good contact with his shot allowing Cable to make the save.Beccles could have snatched all three points as they were awarded a free-kick just outside the box.The effort though was weak and Bergin made a comfortable save on Beccles only attempt on target.Beccles were obviously delighted with the point and although we are left disappointed with the result there was plenty to like about the Waveney performance despite the lack of a goal.We looked a threat throughout and on another day would have ran out comfortable winners had we taken our chances. More good performances again a solid back four and the midfield duo of Jarvis and Allen winning there battles along with Bloomfield and Jones. The front two of Clay and Swan again performed well and created opportunities but it was just one of those days.Next we are at home to probable champions Harleston who we have yet to face this season. With all there talent a tough game is in store for us but we go into the game with a lot of confidence after a run of three good performances and taking 7 points from 9.
