Freethorpe Reserves 1-4 Waveney Reserves

Waveney Reserves beat Freethorpe Reserves 4-1 in a highly physical game. Waveney fielded an experienced back four with a mixture of youngsters ahead of them. The team got off to a shaky start, giving away a free kick, which hit the top of the crossbar. 6 minutes on the clock, Tom Mawford was fouled right on the edge of the area. Justin Evans took the free kick with power, which the keeper could only parry into the path of youngster James Smith to tap home for 1-0.

15 minutes on the clock Justin Evans was fouled down the left hand side. The free kick was whipped into the box by Captain Ryan Horton and Evans with the header at the back post scored to make it 2-0 to Waveney.
Jon Williams had the ball in the back of the net twice to find both goals disallowed for handball and for offside.

Freethorpe began to break up the play towards the end of the first half by giving away a number of fouls. This affected Waveney’s rhythm, and right at the end of the half Freethorpe won a free kick on the edge of Waveney’s box. This free kick resulted in the score line being brought to 2-1 at halftime.

Waveney started the second half on the front foot, and were rewarded when youngster George Barber played a through ball down the left for Jon Williams to slot home to make it 3-1. Connor Swan played the ball down the left for Alex Cross to shoot at goal, and his effort could only be saved into the path of the on-rushing Jon Williams who placed it home to make it 4-1 to Waveney.

All round a good performance from the team in a game which was physically challenging.
