Waveney slip to narrow defeat!

Waveney first team squad first game of a tough pre-season programme got underway against a strong Lowestoft Town Side at Crown Meadow.Waveney had some new faces in the squad from last season but were missing the key midfield duo of Jarvis and Burgess who were unavailable.Lowestoft fielded a strong starting X1
and had more of the ball during the first-half and created the better openings but the defence of Bond,Hammersley,Grigg and Bloomfield defended well and kept a good shape. On twenty minutes an awkward fall saw Luke Salmon stretchered off for Waveney and he was replaced by Matthew Wilson joining George Barber in the middle of the park.Lowestoft took the lead 5 minutes later when Jake Reed shot from outside the box found its way past Bergin who failed to get a strong hand on it.A couple of changes at half-time saw Waveney introduce Ross Brown and more debutants in Lewis Hammond and Daniel Tacon.Waveney were awarded a penalty on 60 minutes but Bloomfields effort was saved by Glover. And Lowestoft made us pay for that missed opportunity as they had a second goal minutes later as Henderson picked out Danny Crow to smash home from close range.Waveney reduced the arrears on 81 minutes as Hough steered the ball home after a good move.Lowestoft hit the woodwork twice in the second half but Waveney were delighted with their efforts on the night. All in all a good workout with everyone playing there part and looking comfortable with that level of football.
