First silverware already achieved as we prepare for senior football

Waveney continue training twice a week as they prepare for an historic first ever season as a senior football club.Training has been well attended with several new signings with Thurlow Nunn league experience which will be a huge asset to the squad. With all of last season squad committed to the club we can't wait for our first game which is away to Hempnall on Saturday August 15th.This is followed by our first local derby of the season were we welcome Beccles Town to Saturn Close on tuesday 18th August .Both these teams were major players in the league last season just missing out on promotion in 3rd and 4 th place so a very tough start.Having had three successive promotions we remain confident that we can compete and challenge in this league. On Saturday a mixed squad of players travelled to Beccles Caxton for our first competive friendly of the season. The tournament was to celebrate 135 years of Beccles Caxton as a club and we were delighted to be asked to take part. The semi final against Caxton saw us race in to a two nil lead as a Ryan Bloomfield penalty and an own goal saw us lead at the break.Mcauley Westoby grabbed a third before Caxton pulled a goal back with a penalty of their own.Another new lad Sonio Gomes came on and showed some nice touches.Waveney made the game safe as Westoby scored a superb 4th goal after some more fine passing.
The final against Pot Black was a game we dominated from start to finish as Bradley Hough scored at the second attempt after the keeper had saved his header. One up at the break Mcauley Westoby soon made it 2-0 as he beat several players and rounded the keeper to finish superbly. Having hit the woodwork four times and not extending our lead we failed to deal with a cross and Pot Black pulled a goal back with a simple headed goal. With time running out Mcauley broke clear and squared for young Tyler Gallant to slide in and secure the trophy.Well done to everyone involved especially to Michael King for sorting out the team that was missing quite a few of last season's players.Squad for the tournament was M Gooch,D Grigg,J Jarvis,R Bloomfield, K Shand,C Bond,A Greengrass, L Salmon, T Mawford,L Coston,B Hough,M Westoby, T Gallant, S Gomes and A Hammersley. This Saturday sees a tough test as we travel to Long Stratton who play in The Anglian combination Premier league one division above us.Again some of our younger players will get more opportunities to stake a claim.
Training times Tuesdays 7pm-9pm and Thursdays 7pm-8.30pm.
